Brussels has some compelling reasons to go visit. It’s the home of great tasting, mega strong beers, delicious chocolate and it’s the home of Tintin! It’s 2 hours on Eurostar from London, which makes it super accessible as well. One of the great parts of Brussels is the Grand Place, (or Grote Markt in Dutch) and is one of the oldest parts of the city.
Between July and September each year, an amazing and captivating sound and light show happens here at about 10:30pm each night. Projected onto City Hall, the show features music and animations created by local Belgian artists. Standing in the middle of the massive and jaw dropping square on a cold night and seeing the entire front of the building light up is something else. The way the light bounces between the windows, up and down and left and right keeps your eyes fixated for ages.
I took a video of this on my first visit to Brussels way back in the end of 2009. Check it out below to get a feel of what it’s like.
